38 States of America

August 16, 2008

I’ve always thought that 50 states were too many, and many state boundaries didn’t make sense. The fact that we have rectangular states like Montana shows just how artificial the boundaries are. State borders should follow natural boundaries and avoid dividing metropolitan areas between two states. This map, except for the names makes a lot of sense. Why in the world would anyone name a state Bitterroot?

Who’s in control?

July 27, 2008

With the Olympics coming up in China, I thought that I would revisit a BBC article from March of this year. For nearly a decade, the Chinese government has actively blocked access to the BBC website on the mainland. When the Chinese government suddenly lifted its restriction to the news site earlier this year, many Chinese surprisingly voiced opinions in favor of their government. If a country of over 1.3 billion people can be controlled, then shouldn’t it be easier to bend the views of the 300 million Americans?

Nas recently performed his latest single “Sly Fox” on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, gaining much attention from the media for accusing Fox News of racism and conservative bias. The media that many Americans are exposed to are run by a few large corporations. Biased agendas can even find their way into publicly funded news media. Even in a “free” country like America we are heavily influenced by information purposely distorted by a few.

They say ignorance is bliss.

An Introduction

Hello is not enough. There are so many thoughts and ideas that are lost everyday, never to be recovered, never to affect another sentient being ever again. We are blessed by the gift of language, so let us use this gift to its fullest.
